A Few Local Legends – Opole’s Scary Stories

It’s autumn – the season of falling leaves, cooler weather, and all kinds of thrills. Whether you are interested in history or simply looking for a chilling read, in our region’s past you will definitely find something right up your old town alley.

Today, we are excited to launch a library section on our site, which we hope to expand with many pieces in the future, starting with a selection of old local tales available in an easily accessible format for your reading pleasure. We invite you to explore it and come back for more additions through updates.

Currently available are:

  • Dutchess Euphemia: Opole’s major ghost story.
  • The Black Dog: A shuttered inn unleashes terror, mysteriously haunting the town.
  • The Drowner’s Daughters: Lovers of Slavic demons will enjoy the tale of two daughters defying their father’s wishes.
  • The Old Tower: A child’s  very mysterious discovery in an old, abandoned tower leads to unexpected results.
  • The White Goose: A goose on the loose spreads ominous news.

We would like to thank Opole z Sercem (Opole with a Heart) for allowing us to use their  article, “5 most interesting legends about Opole” [Link, in Polish], as a basis for this collection. We look forward to sharing more such materials with you through our collaboration.
