University of Opole: Beyond the Lecture. Bob Dylan

We, alongside the Academic Circle of Britanists and Americanists of the University of Opole, would like to invite you to a lecture by Mr. Stephen Dewsbury on Bob Dylan, which will take place on May 8th at 11:30 a.m., in SCC.

Bob Dylan, born Robert Allen Zimmerman in 1941, is one of the most famous American singer-songwriters and has been a major cultural figure for nearly seventy years. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2016 and has continued releasing albums as recently as 2023. Widely regarded as one of the greatest songwriters of all time, Dylan has sold over one hundred and twenty-five million records across the world. He revolutionized folk music in the 1960s by blending it with many literary, philosophical, and also political themes, influencing the counterculture and reshaping all popular music forever.  The cult figure has also never been one to stay in constraints of one genre, often blending his wide-ranging inspirations.

We have asked the host of the event for more information:

“This talk focuses on Bob Dylan’s body of work, his life, and how I came to be interested in Dylan and the so-called field of Dylanology. Firstly, there will be a few minor biographical details and some anecdotal reflections on my admiration of this American icon. Then I will reflect on, and present, some of the concepts related to nostalgia which I explored in a chapter I wrote for a book called All Along Bob Dylan: America and the World. Together, we will also explore how the themes of horror and fear have held a continual presence in his oeuvre. And, there’s also some zombies!” – told us the England-born lecturer.

If we have piqued your interest, the entrance to the event will be open. Please come and join us on this musical journey.
