Let us look back at Opolcon 2026, an event that finished on Sunday, and that we are still living through in our minds.
The festival, which started on Friday, September 11th, had a very special outing this year due to its new Solaris Shopping Mall location. The Solaris Shopping Mall area was available on both Friday and Saturday and featured various attractions, including ones we helped to organize, such as arcade cabinets and a presentation on arcade history, as well as our own Meme Music Master Quiz.
There were also various stalls and an exhibition of cosplay costumes. All together, this was possibly the most popular set of attractions, as it required no prior registration or static line.
Meanwhile, the other parts of the festival took place in three schools. The 8th High School in Opole was used on Friday and Saturday, while the Electrical Schools Complex was open throughout all three days, from Friday to Sunday. The Economic School was also used as the sleeping area. There were quizzes and meetings, including with authors such as Rafał Kosik, who is famous for his science fiction works, including ones based on the Cyberpunk 2077 license. There were also various stalls, which included homemade products, candles, imported snacks and candy, or even various offerings from the local city library, which were sold at prices chosen by visitors.
Additionally, Friday was also finished with CON: Chronically Online Night, which was a party we took part in, created and set up at Regionalne Doznania. The area, which was very dungeon-like, was filled with joyful dancing, and people had a lot of fun jamming with us to popular tunes from the internet.
We were also very happy to find that this year featured a higher amount of visitors from outside of Poland, including ones from other Slavic countries and elsewhere in Europe. Some of the guests were also ones we recognized from our other projects at the university.
