The Piastonalia festival is back – packed with top Polish music, various kinds of cuisine, as well as other attractions. Stay tuned to this post to find out everything you need to know about one of the biggest student celebrations in Poland!
Piastonalia are an example of “juwenalia” – a traditional Polish student festival format celebrated in May, with roots dating back to 15th-century Cracow. The main traditional name references the youth games held in ancient Rome, which were introduced in 59 AD by Emperor Nero. Today, each Polish city often gives its student festival a unique name reflecting its local culture and history. Our branding refers to the Piast dynasty, Poland’s first historical rulers, highlighting the area’s ties to their legacy. During this time, students symbolically take over the city, enjoying several days filled with concerts, sports, and cultural events.
Here, the extravaganza is free to attend and is spread across both of the major campuses: the University of Opole and the Opole University of Technology. These very colorful celebrations, held every year, bring a lot of joy to everyday life in education. Being connected to official holidays at both schools, these days can be enjoyed by most students in many different ways (including simply relaxing). We would like to invite you to use this chance to come outside and have some fun together with us. This post will be updated as more additions to the final schedule are announced.
