Piastonalia 2025: A Retrospective

Piastonalia are now behind us, a week filled with joy, dancing, and many unforgettable experiences, bringing students together across two campuses: the University of Opole and the Opole University of Technology.

The celebrations kicked off on Friday (09.05) with an outdoor cinema screening of Green Book (2018), directed by Peter Farrelly, setting the tone for a vibrant week. On Saturday (10.05), we joined the lively Silent Disco, where participants danced to their favorite tunes broadcast across three different music channels, letting people connect in groups via their tastes. Sunday (11.05) brought out the singers in us during the karaoke tournament at the student club. Students took the stage with courage and enthusiasm, performing a wide range of genres and showcasing their vocal talents.

Monday (12.05) started with a Mario Kart 8 Deluxe tournament, supported by MediaMarkt’s Opole branch. The excitement continued with an outdoor QR-code-based scavenger hunt and the wildly entertaining “Illegal Race on Whatever You’ve Got”, a race involving quickly made cardboard vehicles, held on the University of Opole campus. At the same time, the main stage came alive with performances from several DJs, those including GOATSXY, NOT MIGUEL, DWA_SIEDEM, and DJ Felipe. DJ Naro closed the night with an energetic mix of hip-hop and reggaeton, before the party latee moved to Mango Club for afterparties that had continued through Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

On Tuesday (12.05), we aired a special edition of our radio show OPOlisten by OPOlink.pl, reuniting with our favorite guests to celebrate Piastonalia. The two hour long broadcast turned out to be very memorable for all of the people taking part. Later, we headed to the stage to catch performances by Kin Cat (an Opole native band), Frank Leen (a music producer and guitarist, performing during the show with a DJ), PlanBe (a rapper and songwriter), and Smolasty (one of the most popular of mainstream singers active nowadays in our country, who had also performed during the night with the crowd, largely taken over by his plentiful teenage fans). The evening and night blended rock and hip-hop into a powerful musical showcase.

Wednesday (13.05) continued the rock momentum with concerts from One Step and AntyRefleks (two bands of the bands present during last year’s Opole Student Song Showcase). All of the later performances were also very noteworthy. Jamal, known for mixing multiple genres with reggae, and for their track “Pull Up” featured in the Need for Speed: Shift (PSP) soundtrack, brought serious energy. Video, a 2000s pop-rock band formerly known as SuperPuder, joined the crowed together through for its bold and joyful lyrics and melodies. Its lead singer is also known for starring in both Poland’s first reality show, Dwa Światy, and longest-running cult sitcom, Świat według Kiepskich. Feel continued the wave of nostalgia with their early 20 years worth of pop-rock hits, long beloved on Polish radio, with the lead singer sharing many words of wisdom with the students.

Thursday (14.05) took us to the Opole University of Technology campus, where night was started off by Excess and KSU. Later, Artur Rojek (former frontman of Myslovitz, one of the most famous worldwide bands from our country) performed both his former group’s classics and his more recent solo material. The night ended with a humorous twist from Nocny Kochanek, a metal band fronted by an English teacher and known for creating music for the animated cult franchise Kapitan Bomba. Finally, Friday (15.05) closed out the week with a lineup of hip-hop artists performing at the field of the Opole University of Technology, those being Świchu, Adaśko, Miły ATZ, Paluch, and Young Igi.

We are incredibly grateful to have been part of this celebration and extend our thanks to both of the universities for the opportunity to cover their events. From Friday to Friday, the week was packed with events full of the great creativity, talent, and energy of the student community. We are now already looking forward to Piastonalia next year. In the meantime, stay tuned: TikTok videos from the event are coming soon. We also invite you to explore our photo gallery, which will appear below in the coming days.
