It’s time for jazz and fusion to be heard in Opole once again, as Paul Wertico, Krzysztof “Puma” Piasecki and Krzysztof Ścierański join the stage.
The host of this evening will be Paul Wertico, a drum legend and seven-time Grammy winner. Gaining international fame first as a longtime member of the legendary Pat Metheny Group(1983–2001), this Chicago-born visionary has worked with such icons as David Bowie, Eddie Harris, and Larry Coryell, while Polish fans know him well as a key historical member of the progressive group SBB. Modern Drummer and DRUM! magazines have regularly placed him at the top of their polls, due to this academic educator’s continuous pushing of the boundaries of jazz through his playing.
Krzysztof “Puma” Piasecki is a key figure in the Polish guitar scene and one of the most versatile artists in the country, honored with the Gloria Artis Medal. A laureate of the International Jazz Improvisation Competition in Katowice and a former Berklee College of Music scholarship recipient, he moves with equal ease through various genres, like during the recent mocART Festival in Opole. He has, in his extensive career, shared the stage with such international greats as Mike Stern, David Weckl, and Dennis Chambers, while also accompanying stars of the caliber of José Feliciano, Shirley Bassey or Cindy Blackman Santana. As the founder of the Opole Jazz Association, he will once again light up a hometown stage.
Completing this trio is Krzysztof Ścierański. Deeply inspired by pulsating African and Latin rhythms, he capable of bass-based storytelling and through it revolutionized the way the instrument is approached in Poland. His musical biography is filled with various noteworthy works, from hundreds of iconic concerts with Laboratorium, including memorable tours in India and San Sebastián, through the energetic Air Condition led by Zbigniew Namysłowski, to the cult, boundary-pushing String Connection, with which he conquered stages from Montreal to Reno, Nevada.
This concert will be a guarantee of a performance, where classical harmony will meet Latin pulse and Chicago swing. The show will take place on Friday, October 23, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. at the Concert Hall of the F. Chopin State Music School in Opole, located at 18 Strzelców Bytomskich Street. Tickets start at PLN 100.
