Join us on a Moon Safari and explore the legacy of Air during a cultural event hosted by Dr Sławomir Kuźnicki of the University of Opole.
This open lecture will celebrate the music and enduring influence of Air. Formed in Versailles by Nicolas Godin and Jean-Benoît Dunckel, the duo became one of the most distinctive voices in late 1990s and early 2000s electronic music. Emerging from the French touch movement, they crafted a refined sonic identity — blending analog synthesizers, dreamy melodies, downtempo rhythms, and cinematic textures. The group has developed a sound that feels both nostalgic and futuristic. Their elegant and restrained music draws equally from space-age lounge, vintage pop, and ambient experimentation, creating immersive listening experiences that are as introspective as they are expansive, shaping the sonic lanscapes of the atmospheric chillout genre.
Dr Sławomir Kuźnicki is an author, literary critic, translator, and lecturer at the University of Opole. His scholarly work focuses on the intersections of literature and music, particularly rock culture and its broader cultural contexts. Throughout his career, he has published monographs on dystopian fiction and literary perspectives on rock music.
The event will be held on 19 March 2026 at 5:45 PM at Kośnego 34 in Opole. It is organized through the collaboration of the Foreign Language Library of the Opole Voivodeship Public Library (Biblioteka Obcojęzyczna WBP Opole) and the University of Opole, whose joint efforts have made this cultural event possible.
