Drum Fest 2025: Pete Roth Trio + TU-NER

A special evening for fans of sonic adventures – two concerts in one night! With first TU-NER and then Pete Roth Trio, get ready to see three figures from the history of King Crimson on one stage!

TU-NER

Here is TU-NER, the newest band formed by three well-known names: percussion professional Pat Mastelotto, guitar player Markus Reuter, and Warr guitarist Trey Gunn. This genre-bending team will be sure to give you an unforgettable auditory experience full of intricacy.

Pat Mastelotto, the drummer from Northern California, like Phil Collins and Dave Grohl before him, achieved his biggest success after his band career ended, being also deeply involved in pushing moving forward the art of electronic drumming. Pat has spent his self-taught musical life not sticking with one style. His years of playing were spent mixing pop, prog, electronica, world music – all with artists such as David Sylvian, Kimmo Pohjonen, Mr. Mister, The Rembrandts, XTC, and for the past 25 years with King Crimson and Stick Men.

Markus Reuter is a composer, guitarist, and producer. He began his musical journey as a composer before delving into Robert Fripp’s school, mastering the Chapman Stick, and ultimately moving to the U8 Touch Guitar. Apart from releasing solo albums, he has had numerous major collaborations, forming a prominent position in the experimental group Anchor and Burden and forming the duo Tuner with Pat. He was also a member of the Europa String Choir and has worked with leading artists such as Gary Husband, J. Peter Schwalm, Mark Wingfield, Robert Rich, and many others. Reuter’s versatility is evident in his participation in Devin Townsend’s touring band. He also performs in trios including Stick Men with Pat and Tony Levin, TRUCE with Asaf Sirkis and Fabio Trentini, and the Reuter/ Motzer/ Grohowski trio.

Trey Gunn is an extraordinary Warr guitarist and musician, who through a lot of effort has left an indelible mark on the world of progressive music. Known for his talent, he has graced stages alongside legends such as Brian Eno, David Sylvian, Happy Rhodes, King Crimson, Puscifer, and Tool, bringing his unique blend of hypnotic melodies and innovative playing. As the founder of the acclaimed label 7D Media, Gunn continues to be a driving force in creating exceptional musical experiences.

Pete Roth Trio

Pete Roth Trio is a band consisting of leader and guitarist Pete Roth, Mike Pratt on bass, and Bill Bruford on drums. The squad creates with the new listeners in mind, pushing the boundaries of what would normally constitute the genre. With Roth’s personal compositions, such as “Dancing with Grace”, joint trio works like “Trio in Five” and “Looking Forward to Looking Back”, or reinterpretations of masterpieces such as “Largo from the Ninth Symphony” by Antonín Dvořák, you are sure to be taken on a real adventure.

Pete Roth is a versatile artist and acclaimed session guitarist born in Germany to a family of musicians. He picked up the guitar at the age of 11, starting his lifelong journey inspired by his household, the intense emotions of blues and the power of rock. His horizons broadened when he moved to England to study jazz, immersing himself in the structures and being influenced by greats such as Joe Pass, John Scofield, and Julian Lage. Not long after, Roth began his solo career as a bandleader and released two albums on MGP Records. He often performed at London’s Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club and built a lasting reputation. His artistic journey continues to evolve, now entering a new band chapter.

Mike Pratt is a distinguished double and electric bassist, composer, and producer based in London. Early in his career he was especially drawn to funk, acid jazz, and fusion. He discovered the music of Charles Mingus, Duke Ellington, John Scofield, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Return to Forever, Steps Ahead, and Weather Report. For several years Mike also performed regularly at Ronnie Scott’s with the band Shorter Than Miles. He is a part of, and a composer for, the jazz-fusion project KGQ feat. Kieron Garrett, with Dave O’Higgins and Duncan Eagles on saxophones. Two albums of theirs were released on 33 Jazz Records. His other works include those with Acantha Lang and Liane Carroll, and performances at Cape Town Jazz Festival, Jazz Café, Royal Albert Hall, and many jazz clubs – both local and international. Recently he has collaborated with Curiosity Killed the Cat, Laura Evans, and Oliver Tompsett, composed music for Ford and FIA, and recorded bass for Stewart’s documentary film. He is also musical director of the rock documentary Seven Decades. While it may be intimidating to look back at the long line of legendary bassists in Bruford’s discography (including Chris Squire, Jeff Berlin, John Wetton, and many more), Mike focuses on the fact that the trio’s music is completely unique – giving him a blank canvas to realize his own ideas and vision. Thanks to this approach, over the years he has also taught bass and composition at Kingston University.

Known worldwide as a rock musician and drummer, Bill Bruford also has a passion for jazz, working with artists like Al Di Meola, Allan Holdsworth, Buddy Rich Orchestra, Chris Botti, David Torn, Django Bates, Genesis, Iain Ballamy, and Tim Garland. From the start, Bill’s need to innovate has steered him away from what’s known and led to a 40-year career as a bandleader and composer. His groups such as Bruford and Earthworks set standards in the 1970s and 1980s with complex harmonic structures in rock, in the 1990s with electronic sounds, samples, and odd meters in electric jazz, and in the 21st century with stylistic innovations in acoustic jazz. His passion for the unexpected and search for new in live performance led to numerous collaborations with popular rock and jazz musicians worldwide. He was inducted into the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame (1990), named the 16th greatest drummer of all time by Rolling Stone in 2016, and inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Yes in 2017. His work is extensively documented on CDs and DVDs released through Summerfold and Winterfold Records, on his YouTube channel, and personal website.
