Drum Fest 2025: Chris Minh Doky & The Nomads

An electryfying approach to music approaches Opole – get ready for the artistry of Chris Minh Doky and the Nomads, a band filled with talent known for work with numerous stars.

Chris Minh Doky is a world-renowned bassist and bandleader from Denmark, who has had a great impact on the current role of the bold and melodic double bass. Shaped by both the vibrant New York jazz scene and Nordic calm, the player has gained wide international acclaim for his unique style and stories told through his melodies. So far, his stylings have been noticed by artists such as Al Jarreau, Gary Burton, Michael Brecker, Mike Stern, Pat Metheny, Randy Brecker, and Trilok Gurtu – all of whom he has collaborated with.

The Nomads is a bass-driven electric jazz ensemble shaking up the genre’s formula, bringing a new approach and fresh ideas into its world. The group places the instrument at the center of a modern sonic landscape inspired by a wide range of artists, including Larry Graham Jaco Pastorius, Billie Eillish and James Blake. With their raw energy, memorable grooves and creative improvisations, their music can connect people on all walks of life. The group features: Chris Minh Doky on bass, Keith Carlock on drums, George Whitty on keyboards, and Till Brönner on trumpet.

Keith Carlock (USA) is a drummer who has recorded and toured with musical mainstays such as Chris Botti, Clay Aiken, David Johansen, Diana Ross, Donald Fagen, Eros Ramazzotti, Faith Hill, Grover Washington Jr., Harry Belafonte, James Taylor, John Mayer, Larry Carlton, Leni Stern, Michael Bublé, Oz Noy, Paula Abdul, Rascal Flatts, Richard Bona, Rudder, Steely Dan, Sting, The Blues Brothers, Toto, Walter Becker, and Wayne Krantz, to name just a few. For over twenty years, he has been the drummer of the legendary jazz-rock band Steely Sam, performing with the band on every tour since 2003. His recording career in the band started with the album Two Against Nature, which had received the Grammy Award for “Album of the Year” in 2001.

George Whitty (USA) is a Grammy Award-winning keyboardist, has spent 30 years touring with acts like Brecker Brothers, Chaka Khan, David Sanborn, Grover Washington Jr., Herbie Hancock, Richard Bona, Sadao Watanabe, and Santana (alongside Dave Matthews), among dozens of others. His résumé as a session musician and producer includes hundreds of CDs, including some of the best-selling albums of all time: Celine Dion’s Falling Into You and These Are Special Times, as well as Santana’s Supernatural (with Dave Matthews). In the recent years, he has launched a new R&B and Soul project with Ellis Hall, WHAT!!!!.

Till Brönner (DE) is known as Germany’s top jazz trumpeter, and through his skills sometimes called the “German Chet Baker.” He has so far performed with many international stars such as Carla Bruni, Dave Brubeck, Grégoire Peters, James Moody, Jeff Hamilton, Joe Sample, Klaus Doldinger, Larry Klein, Melody Gardot, Milton Nascimento, Monty Alexander, Nils Landgren, Ray Brown, Sergio Mendes, Tony Bennett, and Yello. In addition, he produced two highly acclaimed albums for American jazz vocalist Mark Murphy. A special highlight of his career was International Jazz Day 2016, when he performed for Barack Obama at the White House alongside Al Jarreau, Aretha Franklin, Buddy Guy, Chick Corea, Diana Krall, Herbie Hancock, Hugh Masekela, and Sting, among others. His records meanwhile, recorded mainly in Los Angeles, have repeatedly also underlined his popularity, through gold status achievements. His latest album, The Good Life, was released by SONY in September 2016.

Krakowska 24) as part of Drum Fest 2025 – an international percussion festival in Opole, featuring top drummers and the 20th Young Drum Herocompetition for emerging talent.
