University of Opole: English for AI in Action

From 3 to 7 November 2025, the University of Opole became the meeting point for students and lecturers from Poland, Czechia, and Slovakia, who gathered for the Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) “English for AI in Action: Solving Business Tasks with Smart Tools”.

The project, jointly organized by the Faculty of Philology at the University of Opole, with participation of Comenius University in Bratislava and the Silesian University in Opava, focused on how artificial intelligence can support effective communication and problem-solving in business contexts. The participants explored the latest AI tools and learned how to apply them in realistic professional scenarios, ones including international teamwork – the programme emphasized English as a working language for collaboration, helping students  with presenting ideas and negotiating across cultures.

There was also a chance to make new friends, including third-year English in Public Communication students: Klaudia Rychlikowska, Łukasz Wiszowaty, and Benjamin Golletz. The helpers prepared an introductory evening on Monday, being looked after by the organizers, mgr. Dorota Kamińska and mgr. Ewa Kropielnicka. The evening was filled with all sorts of fun arrangements, including activities meant to bring people closer together, a humorous quiz, and dancing to a selection of Just Dance releases on a Nintendo Wii. The tracks playing throughout the evening, many of which were sung over by many of the attendees, featured a lot of throwbacks to hits popular across all three countries (and a special Spotify playlist consisting of them can be found here).

Throughout the following days, apart from taking part in the lectures and working together, students were also able to take a tour of the city, Piast Tower, and the Polish Museum of Song, all of which allowed them to gain a deeper appreciation of the local history and culture. This is what a few of the attendees shared about their experiences:

Hi, my name is Jitka. We’ve been learning a lot about AI and have heard many interesting points of view and thoughts about it. For me, the best experience we’ve had in Opole so far was the Piast Tower, I believe it’s called. A really funny activity we had was the pizza party, which I really liked. It was like “Three Truths and One Lie”. Yeah, that was fun. And then the Just Dance session — that was great. – Jitka

My name is Kateřina and I’m from the Czech Republic, from Ostrava, studying in Opava. Opole is a really nice city. It’s very beautiful, a historic city that we really enjoyed, especially the Piast Tower and also the Museum of the Polish Song, which was really cool. – Kateřina

I am Renata. I am from Slovakia, and I study at the university in Bratislava, I am in my second year. Opole is very beautiful, but also a very calm city. For me, it is just perfect, because I don’t like anything noisy. Opole felt like a shelter. Here I had time to rest, and at the same time, I took part in an intensive course. It was really pleasant to get to know Polish students (…). We communicated a lot and played some games together. I really liked the program that the students of Opole created for us. It was about getting to know each other through a game, when we had to tell a fact about ourselves and see how many people were in the same situation. We played games like Just Dance, had quizzes about our countries, and so on. It was really great. Everything I can say is that I will remember it all the time, and I hope to come back to Opole sometime to meet my new friends in the future. – Renata

Hi, I’m Lenka and I would like to say something about this BIP course that I attended. First things first, the whole course was really well prepared. The experts who came and presented to us had really interesting presentations, and I feel like I’m taking a lot from it. The side activities that we had, such as the visit to the Museum of Music here in Poland or the pizza party with local students, were fun. It was also a kind of team-building experience for us, from Slovakia, and that was really nice. – Lenka

At the end of the course, students received 3 ECTS credits and, more importantly, a fresh perspective on business of the future.  The “English for AI in Action” BIP was an example of how building bridges across borders can create something very impactful in the modern day and age.
